Every single keralite can be proud of this person.Santosh kumar (40),a common man from kottayam who is playing the role of a Referee in the Hero Indian Super League.Santosh is not just a referee by profession, but he is an autorickshaw driver who can be seen running his auto in the streets of kottayam and interacting with the people and social activities.
In 2012 he became one of three referees in India to be made professional by the All India Football Association and officiates primarily in the I-League.
Kumar grew up in a village and played for small local clubs, earning Rs. 200 per match. But due to injury and financial problems, he had to give up playing football, instead, he focussed on refereeing the game. He started out as a referee in the 1990s for local village games.
He became a national referee in 2004,but couldnt get into action due to personal committments. But once he was assigned in 2012,he has been there refereeing the top matches in India.
On 13 February 2015,Kumar won the award for the AIFF Best Referee of the Year for 2014. Kumar also refereed the match between Bayern Munich and India in which Bayern Munich won 4–0.
And now,he is up there in ISL managing the international quality matches.
