It has been three years since ‘The God of Cricket’, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, had bid farewell to the sport that loved him back. Though his many masterful innings’ are now but pages in the archive of cricket history, our love for him remains the same just like the excitement and frenzy at seeing him somewhere.
The Eden Garden Stadium was packed for another fresh chapter in the India Pakistan rivalry. And among the multitude, that filled whatever space available, was a host of Legends, who were to be felicitated by the CAB.
Pakistan’s former captains Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis as well as India’s Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag were among these celebrated men. All this was Graced by the presence of Bollywood’s Big B, Amitabh Bachchan. All these men are icons and the fans were undoubtedly excited to see them. But one chant that reverberated through the stadium was the Master Blaster’s name- the same old rhythm with the crowd at its loudest.
The fans had great expectations for the match. With many spending double, triple or more for tickets and still many more missing out on the opportunity. And on the day of the match saw some heavy showers on Kolkata by the evening. Still they decided to go, and many reached the stadium to see the outfield under covers. But they waited and all went as was expected.
The match had a perfect finish with the Indian team stretching its winning streak against Pakistan in world cups and breaking the win less streak against Pakistan at Eden. This success came about as the prodigies from either side performing as expected, as these veterans watched from outside.
The match had another special event worth a mention, the Indian national anthem was sung by Bollywood’s Big B, Amitabh Bachchan who also shared his expectations of peace prevailing in the relations between the two neighbours.
