Nivin Pauly to Play Kayamkulam Kochunni In Rosshan Andrrews Film

After Chandu Chekavar, Thacholi Othenan and Pazhassiraja, it’s the turn of Kayamkulam Kochunni, the famous robber, to re-enter Malayalam cinema and it’s the young actor Nivin Pauly who is going to potray the historical character. The yet-to-be titled film penned by the famous duo Bobby-Sanjay will be directed by Rosshan Andrrews.

The movie is based on the story of the kind-hearted robber Kayamkulam Kochunni’s story from Kottarathil Shankunni’s Aithihyamala. This is the second time the story is being filmed. Earlier in 1966, P.A. Thomas directed the same with Sathyan in the lead.

Aithihyamala doesn’t depict Kochunni’s personal life and this is where the film is going to concentrate in, especially his love life. Bobby-Sanjay took the help from a group of 8 people, in which two was history students, to write the script of the film. They took a span of 2 years to complete the script.

Nivin is already excited about the project. The film’s budget is expected to be around 10-12 crores and will be produced by Gokulam Gopalan under his banner Sree Gokulam Movies. It is indeed a big budget for a Malayalam film.

Since Kochunni’s native place Kayamkulam’s face has changed over years, most of the film will be shot in a village in Sri Lanka. ‘Fire Fly’ which was the production co-ordinator for ‘Baahubali’ will be the co-ordinator for this film too. The film’s shoot will commence from early 2017.

The makers are still in search for the female lead. Other cast will mostly be newcomers.

PM Satheesh, sound designer of Baahubali and Talaash, will be doing the sound design for the film. Santhosh Narayanan will most probably handle the music section. Cinematographer is still not finalised.
