Part OPPO Inno Day 2020, the annual OPPO event in which the company unveils some of the most important technologies it has and is working on and which may soon find a place in new products. If, last year, during OPPO Inno Day 2019, we saw the arrival of interesting news such as the smartphone prototype with camera under the display, this year the company unveils one smartphone with scrolling display and new solutions hardware and software for AR (Augmented reality).
OPPO X 2021: device with scrolling display
It is not the first time that we find ourselves talking about a smartphone with a scrolling display, and recently a particular Samsung device had attracted our attention precisely for this peculiarity. OPPO X 2021 is a smartphone with a scrolling display that measures up to 6.7 is 7.4 inches. The OLED panel is motorized with proprietary technology OPPO Roll Motor, that is a 2 in 1 plate that allows the display to extend in length without effort.
The technology developed by the company allows the display not to be damaged even as a result of a sudden push or pull of the display, also thanks to a particular bearing that ensures the display during the entire extension phase. In the course of extending the display, technology 2 in 1 Plate allows the panel not to yield inwards thanks to the presence of a comb structure that accompanies and supports the panel when it is closed or open.
OPPO AR Glass 2021 and CybeReal AR
For several years now, the Chinese company has also been deeply involved in the creation of hardware and software solutions related to the field of augmented reality, a sector that will soon be able to fully exploit the capabilities offered by 5G connectivity. In this sense the company presents OPPO AR Glass 2021, the second generation of AR glasses that the company had already presented last year during the Inno Day 2019.
The glasses take advantage of the split design that allows them to be worn and stored easily, as well as transported around without complications. The company has invested heavily in materials, managing to reduce the weight of the 75% compared to the past generation, and also improves the computing power once mounted to the OPPO Find X2 smartphone thanks to the presence of the Snapdragon 865 processor.
The lenses are made with technology Birdbath which increases contrast, brightness and pixels per degree over the previous model, all to deliver sharper and more real images. The glasses can be used for example in AR streaming contexts and enjoy an IMAX viewing experience, in gaming or for smart living with ad hoc solutions developed for the furnishing of premises.
OPPO CyberReal instead, it is an AR application that exploits the technology of real-time spatial computing built through OPPO Cloud. The application offers real-time and high-precision localization of scenes thanks to an important job of creating the physical world starting from the real one.
The location is estimated considering the IMU, GPS, Wi-Fi and Blutooth parameters; then, the cameras and SLAM algorithms come into action to estimate the spatial position and finally, through the application, it allows the smartphone to understand what it is seeing.
In the future, the application can be used for browsing on smartphones as it offers a more precise localization even of internal environments, but it can also have outlets in gaming, product display, marketing and so on.
