Razer has not officially presented the Razer Phone 3, but a prototype appeared on a Chinese merchant site, photos in support. Using the design of its predecessor, the Razer Phone 3 stands out with the presence of a triple photo sensor on the back, replacing the double sensor of the Razer Phone 2.
With Black Shark, Nubia Red Magic and Asus ROG, Razer is one of the brands that have contributed to the emergence of the market for smartphones intended for gamers. It must be said that the American brand has a strong legitimacy on the market with PC players: it designs PCs and gaming peripherals of excellent quality. A range that even extends to telephony with shells and controllers for different models (including iPhones). It relied on this expertise to offer players a real Android gaming platform.

But the telephony market, even for gamers, is very different from the PC market. With the Razer Phone, released in 2017, the brand has opted for a positioning similar to that of its Blades. Beautiful technical qualities. A very marked design. And a fairly high price. It was quickly followed by the competition we know today in this segment, in particular by Asus and the ROG Phone. In 2018, Razer repeats with the Razer Phone 2, tested here in our columns. And since then, nothing.
However, the American brand has continued to assert that it was not abandoning the telephone market, despite rumors of abandonment in early 2019. A few weeks later, Razer said that the Razer Phone 3 was pushed back to wait 5G. Since then, 5G has largely arrived, but the smartphone has not turned a corner. Until this week. A functional prototype of the Razer Phone 3 was seen on the Chinese Taobao merchant site from which the two visuals accompanying this article emanate.
Just a Razer Phone 2 with a triple photo sensor?
Visually, this Razer Phone 3 prototype is very close to the Razer Phone 2. On the back is the main difference between the two: a photo block with 3 sensors and no longer 2. At the front, you will find this large touch screen bordered by two thick borders where the technical elements and the front speakers are housed, one of the ergonomic characteristics of the range.
Does the appearance of this prototype herald the commercial arrival of the Razer Phone 3? No, for two reasons. First, we are not sure that the Razer Phone 2 was a commercial success, quite the contrary. Next, competition is strong in the high-end segment in which the Razer Phone is positioned. This does not mean that Razer will not try to find its place in the smartphone market again.
