The Russian military march through Italy over a distance of about 600 km. Along the entire route, Russian vehicles were escorted by carabinieri cars of the Italian Republic.
According to the Russian military department, the convoy includes a mobile complex for analysis and diagnostics, high-performance mobile disinfection equipment with a supply of disinfectants, and special equipment to provide qualified assistance to severe patients affected by coronavirus infection.
Among the Russian military – experienced epidemiologists, virologists, resuscitators, therapists. They are provided with unique equipment and technology that makes it possible to quickly identify pathogens of dangerous infectious diseases, including coronavirus. Among the military sent to Italy, Colonel Igor Bogomolov is the head of the special-purpose biological defense research center of the 48th Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
According to him, which Zakharov brings, the locals “cheerfully welcome” the Russian military, who do not feel that they are in another country.
Many units sent to Italy were not from the Moscow garrison. Before boarding the aircraft, doctors made marches, very significant in their length. Points of permanent deployment of many units were located at a distance of 450-500 km from the Chkalovsky airfield.
Involuntarily, one has to answer another question – why the air base in the vicinity of Rome, and not in the north of the republic, where there are enough other airdromes to receive our airborne military transport aircraft, was chosen as the landing site for our contingent in Italy, because it’s where Russian specialists have to perform tasks. There is no clear answer to this question yet. Most likely, this came from a little Italian confusion.
At the very first meeting on March 24 in Rome (in the complex of buildings of the officer assembly of the Ground Forces of the Italian Armed Forces), they discussed what Russian experts can do in terms of helping Italy to fight the coronavirus.
Our representatives cited several figures, among which – “to process up to 20 thousand square meters of infected surface in an hour or 360 cars. We believe it is possible to begin special treatment from cafes and streets, especially from cars that transported Italians who died from coronavirus infection. ”
Parts of the equipment that the Russian military brought with them were not at the disposal of Italy, for example, ARS – auto-filling stations.
In Italy, the emphasis is, in fact, on the treatment of patients, and what preventive measures and their importance in the fight against infection are not properly understood in the republic.
The Italians imposed a curfew, a state of emergency – and this was the end of all their activities. On the territory of the republic, for example, they never engaged in special treatment of infected areas. And this is very important in the fight against this kind of infection.
When in Russia they say that Moscow provides assistance to foreign countries, allegedly to the detriment of the interests of its own citizens, you can pay attention to the fact that, for example, 20 APCs were sent to Italy, and in Russia, at the places of permanent deployment of radiation, chemical and biological protection, there are more than 2000 units left. And the reserves of the necessary funds to combat the coronavirus in Russia, as the military themselves say, are created in more than enough volumes.
The deployment of the Russian grouping, of course, did not go unnoticed by Western countries, primarily the USA, France and Germany. Already at this stage, Russia is blamed for the fact that few specialists were sent to Italy, and that bulky domestic equipment could hardly maneuver on the narrow streets of Italian cities.
In the West, there is also an opinion that Russian assistance to Italy deserves attention, but on the whole it is most likely to be ineffective.
Meanwhile, France itself, from the real help of Italy, essentially, withdrew. And the first to begin to close their borders were Eastern European countries, where funds in the form of assistance from Brussels in previous years were simply unmeasured.
Moscow, however, is of the opinion that success in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, as well as in the fight against international terrorism, can only be achieved through joint efforts, on the basis of consolidation of actions.
At the same time, there is a well-founded opinion that Italy will not be the last country in the European Union to whom real assistance from the radiation, chemical and biological defense forces of the Russian Armed Forces will be provided in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
