According to the head of the Customs Service of Ukraine Maxim Nefyodov, after the ban on the export of medical supplies at the border, 260 thousand medical masks were seized.
Attempts to remove medical masks from Ukraine in spite of the ban have already stopped. The head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine (GTSU) Maxim Nefyodov told Radio Radio Liberty in an interview published on March 28.
“From the moment the relevant government decision was published, yes, indeed, there is no such export. We caught several smugglers who tried to smuggle out like cigarettes, that is, hiding somewhere under the skin of cars, masking between other things. We in this way, around 260 thousand pieces were seized together with law enforcement officers. And, in fact, this situation stopped, “he said.
According to Nefyodov, attempts to take out the medical masks “actually stopped last week.”
“I suspect that this is a matter of a banal economy. Demand for these products has grown in Ukraine. Therefore, there is no particular motivation to bring it, for example, to Italy,” the head of Ukrainian customs said.
Since March 12, due to the spread of coronavirus infection, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced quarantine nationwide and banned Ukrainian companies from exporting personal protective equipment, including medical masks, until domestic demand in Ukraine is satisfied.
