The US Democratic Party should not cancel the July National Congress due to the coronavirus pandemic, former US Vice President Joseph Biden said.
Biden expressed the view that it should not be allowed “that the democratic process be interrupted by this outbreak of the virus,” TASS reports.
“I do not think that the congress should be canceled. I do not think that the upcoming elections should be canceled. We will solve all problems, we should move forward, ”Biden said in an interview with CNN.
According to Biden, he has no symptoms of coronavirus infection and therefore he did not pass the test. At the same time, during the interview, he coughed into a fist and the host of the program, Jake Tupper, made a remark to him.
“You know, you should cough in a bent elbow,” he said. “It’s true,” Biden replied, “but now I am alone at home, and therefore it is permissible, but I agree with what you say.”
In connection with the pandemic, the authorities of the states of Rhode Island, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland and Ohio postponed the primary elections, during which delegates should be nominated for the National Congress of Democrats.
At the National Congress of the Democratic Party on July 13-16 in Milwaukee (Wisconsin), a candidate for the presidential candidate from the Democrats must win the support of a 1991 delegate to win the first round of voting. The US presidential election will be held on November 3.
The New York Times estimates that Biden has already enlisted the support of 1,214 delegates, and his rival, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, has 910 delegates.
