This step is a recognition of the fact that most of the new cases of coronavirus in the PRC are now truly “imported” by foreigners who have arrived from abroad. As you know, the Chinese government has slowed the spread of this disease among its own population.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the national immigration authorities, foreign nationals currently holding Chinese visas or residence permits will be temporarily denied entry into the country until further notice.
The government also suspends all visa-free transit and visa (scientific, humanitarian, economic and other) programs. Persons holding diplomatic passports are exempt from these obligations.
The statement said that foreign citizens who must visit China as necessary must apply for new visas.
In recent days, China has introduced stricter restrictions on foreigners entering the country, including 14-day quarantine for people arriving from countries that have been hit hard by the pandemic. China has also sharply reduced the number of foreigners who may come to the country. Foreign airlines are allowed to make only a few flights a week.
Massive and rather rigid isolation of people in the most affected areas gradually brought control of the spread of the virus, and some cities even allowed workers to return to their jobs.
According to the National Health Commission of China, on Wednesday in the mainland of China, 67 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded, all of which were imported from abroad, Xinhua reported.
