The numbers of the parent company Facebook: the time spent on apps has increased by 70%, + 50% messages. “We work to allow our systems to ensure stability”
ROME – It was easy to imagine it given the dramatic situation that forces almost all of Italy home. Now there are numbers too. Since the coronavirus hit our country, group calls on Messenger and WhatsApp have increased by more than 1,000% in terms of time. Facebook makes it known in a post signed by two vice presidents, Alex Schultz is Jay Parikh.
The time spent by Italians on the Facebook ecosystem apps – which includes Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp – has increased by 70% since the beginning of the crisis. In the last month, the exchange of messages has grown by 50%, while the views of live broadcasts – Instagram and Facebook Live – have doubled within a week.
Globally, “the growth in use caused by Covid-19 is unprecedented across the industry, we are experiencing new usage records almost every day,” write Schultz and Parikh. “Maintaining stability during these peak usage times is more difficult than usual now that most of our employees work from home.” However, they assure, “we are working to keep our apps running smoothly, making our systems more efficient and adding the required capacity.”
