When grief and misfortune come, people cannot cope on their own without God, said the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphanius. He cited the situation with coronavirus as an example.
People begin to consider themselves god. Such an opinion, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PCU), Metropolitan Epiphanius expressed “Radio Liberty” in an interview published on April 18.
“We all need to think. To think about our life. Because time is fleeting and we are so indifferent now. What do we see now, for example, in European civilization? European civilization is trying to throw God out of its life. That is, a person practically considers himself to be God “, – he said.
The metropolitan explained what he means.
“He can do such great specific things that we see now, modern, latest technologies and so on. But when grief and misfortune come, we see that without God we cannot cope with these tests on our own. That is, we must rethink everything that has happened so far, change, become better, repent of our sins, and then the Lord will be merciful to us, “said Epiphanius.
He emphasized that coronavirus, which is spreading in the world, takes many lives despite “modern medical technologies that allow miracles to work.”
The COVID-19 outbreak began in December 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization announced the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
On the morning of April 19, 5449 cases were detected in Ukraine, of which 343 were detected in the last day. 141 people died, eight of them in the last 24 hours.
