Thanks to the decisive actions of the security services and sanitary-epidemiological control, the situation with the spread of coronavirus in Russia remains relatively calm, while European countries are plunging into crisis. The German journalist Andre Ballin writes about this in his article for the Austrian publication Der Standard.
According to the author, although luck in this case was not without, in many respects it is the merit of the security and control services, which acted more decisively than the EU authorities.
He recalled that already at the end of January, the land border of Russia with China was closed and railway communication between the two countries was stopped. From February 1, air communication with the PRC was limited, and from February 20 a ban on entry was introduced for Chinese citizens, the journalist noted. In addition, restrictions on entry affected citizens of other countries where coronavirus outbreaks were recorded.
Ballin pointed out that at the initial stage of Russia, it was lucky that only two Chinese natives infected with coronavirus were on its territory. Thus, according to him, the Russian authorities have a stock of valuable time, which is now used to stop the spread of infection.
On March 11, the World Health Organization declared an outbreak of coronavirus infection COVID-19, spreading from China, as a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 266 thousand people are already infected in the world, more than 11 thousand have died.
