From today, the British can go out only in extreme and clearly defined cases – for shopping for groceries and essentials, playing sports no more than once a day and only in solitude or with family members. You can also go out for medical necessity or for trips to work, which is recognized as vital.
Any public gatherings of more than two people are also prohibited if they are not members of the same family. Only grocery stores will work.
The police will fine those who will not abide by the rules.
“Not a single prime minister would like to be in this place and introduce such measures. I understand how much damage this will cause to people’s lives, business and work,” Johnson emphasized.
All sports and playgrounds, religious institutions will be closed. All ceremonies are canceled, including weddings, baptisms, but excluding funerals.
“In three weeks we will see and, possibly, weaken these measures, if circumstances permit,” the British prime minister emphasized.
“Without tremendous national efforts to contain this virus, there will come a moment when no healthcare system in the world can cope with it. There’s simply not enough breathing apparatus, not enough places in the intensive care unit, not enough doctors and nurses. And as we have seen in the example other countries, which also have excellent healthcare systems, have a very dangerous moment, “Johnson said.
He added that the UK will face hard times and losses, and noted that he sees a way out of returning former doctors to the healthcare system, accelerating research on the development of a medicine and vaccine for the virus, and purchasing millions of test kits.
