The mayor of Kiev, the head of the Association of Cities of Ukraine Vitaliy Klitschko said that in the context of the spread of coronavirus infection, the regions spend large sums on the fight against the virus, and called on the government not to deprive the local government of excise taxes and additional subventions worth almost 13 billion UAH.
The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, called on the central government not to deprive the regions of financing in the context of the crisis unfolding due to the coronavirus, the GORDON correspondent reports.
“In this situation, as chairman of the Association of Cities, I turned to the government [с просьбой] Do not withdraw funds from local communities. They can hardly keep the situation under the current conditions, when they must finance measures to combat the spread of the virus, “Klitschko said at a briefing in Kiev on March 26.
According to the mayor of the city, the government plans to deprive the regions of local excise taxes and additional subventions in the amount of almost 13 billion UAH.
“This is a huge amount. In such a crisis, the government should support local self-government, and not let it go with the bag around the world.” – said Klitschko.
He repeated his preliminary estimates that, due to coronavirus, capital losses already reach UAH 1 billion.
“But this figure can increase significantly if the situation worsens … Today we convened an extraordinary meeting of the City Council to revise the estimate of the city taking into account the costs of combating the spread of coronavirus. We need to make significant adjustments to the budget and redirect more to medicine, because today the city spends a lot of money on pandemic prevention measures, “the mayor said.

Mass events were banned in the country, educational institutions, shopping centers, shops (except grocery and pharmacies), restaurants, cafes and bars, gyms, beauty salons and night clubs were closed, air traffic with other countries was suspended and domestic passenger traffic was stopped. Employers were encouraged to transfer employees to remote work.
