Russian assistance to Italy in the context of the spread of coronavirus was ambiguously perceived by part of Russian society. How exactly Russia helped, what threatens it and what prospects it opens up, the newspaper “VZGLYAD” understood.
As Rambler reported, a new virus was detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019. Already in March, the World Health Organization announced the coronavirus pandemic. Italy faced the largest epidemic after China, where more than 6 thousand people have already died and more than 64 thousand have become ill. Russia sent to Italy 14 aircraft with hundreds of military virologists and epidemiologists, KamAZ-based mobile systems capable of aerosol disinfection, and medical equipment.
At the same time, part of the Russian society was perceived ambiguously, dissatisfied reminded that Italy is a NATO country and imposed sanctions against Russia, the newspaper “VZGLYAD” notes.
However, to help Italy, according to the publication, Russia did not have to weaken the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Emergencies, and did not even have to sacrifice devices for artificial ventilation of the lungs. The chief of the radiation, chemical, and biological defense troops, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, reported that one of 15 mobile laboratories, 20 machines for special processing of 2065, and 66 out of about 20 thousand RKhBZ troops were sent to help the Italians.
At the same time, thanks to work in Italy, the RKhBZ troops will receive practical training in a “hot spot” in order to apply subsequently the acquired knowledge in Russia. And from a political point of view, this gesture opposes Russophobic propaganda, which is strong in Europe, the newspaper notes.
“Putin’s gesture towards the Italian people can be considered an actual investment in image and a long-term investment in geopolitics. It can be regarded as a special operation of the Russian Chemical Forces Tank Army to gain experience and reconnaissance in extreme conditions. You can treat him like a non-binding reminder that Russia is not an enemy of Europe, no matter what propaganda claims. But we can’t say that in this act of solidarity and support, we somehow deprived ourselves and our people, ”the article emphasizes.
