In connection with the spread of coronavirus infection, the National Bank of Ukraine called on clients of financial institutions to minimize visits to branches and use online banking services.
The National Bank of Ukraine allowed banks to refuse services to customers with symptoms of coronavirus infection. This was stated in the letter of the regulator to the banks of March 22, excerpts from which were published on the NBU’s Facebook page.
“We continue to urge bank customers to minimize visits to bank branches. Especially if you have symptoms of coronavirus infection. For their part, banks should use remote sensing methods to measure the temperature of visitors at the entrance to the premises. Banks have the right to refuse to provide services to a client with a symptom of coronavirus branch of the bank, “the letter said.
In order not to expose bank employees and customers to the risk of infection, the NBU called on financial institutions to transfer interaction with customers to online mode as much as possible.
The regulator allowed banks to independently determine and change the mode of operation of branches, the number and list of operations in specific branches, taking into account the situation and load. For example, to close non-key departments, reduce the working hours of offices, set a specific time for serving older people.
“However, banks should provide support departments in sleeping areas of cities so that customers can get financial services if they don’t need to travel across half a city. Technological breaks should be provided for ventilation, disinfection and wet cleaning in the premises of such offices, and employees should be provided personal protective equipment “, – noted in the NBU.
The regulator recalled that banknotes could potentially be a carrier of the virus, and therefore again called for a transfer to cashless payments.
“As you already know, cash can potentially be a carrier of the virus, and travel to receive wages, pensions, social benefits, subsidies and other cash payments – endanger you. Therefore, the National Bank addresses the Cabinet of Ministers and local authorities on the transfer of all organizations, enterprises, individuals to make these payments exclusively in non-cash form to bank accounts with bank cards open for them, ” – the message says.
