The Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine, Yakov Smoly, said that after the introduction of quarantine in Ukraine, no outflow of deposits was observed.
During the quarantine period, announced due to the spread of coronavirus, The National Bank of Ukraine has banned the introduction of restrictions on expired deposits. The Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Yakov Smoliy said this at a briefing on March 20, a GORDON correspondent reports.
“We forbade banks to introduce any restrictions on deposits whose term has expired. That is, if your deposit has ended, you can do anything with it: continue, withdraw. There are no restrictions,” said Smoly.
Over the past 10 days, there has been virtually no outflow of deposits in the banking system, he said.
Smoly emphasized that during the quarantine period The National Bank does not impose restrictions on the operation of the banking system.
An outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus infection began in December 2019 in China. March 11, the World Health Organization announced the spread of coronavirus pandemic. According to WHO data, on March 19, 209 839 people were infected with coronavirus in more than 160 countries, 8778 people died.
In Ukraine, the number of people infected with coronavirus is 26, of which three people died.
Due to coronavirus, quarantine is announced in Ukraine until April 1. Mass events were banned in the country, educational institutions, shopping centers, shops (except for grocery and drug stores), restaurants, cafes and bars, gyms, beauty salons and night clubs were closed, air traffic with other countries was suspended and domestic passenger traffic was stopped (except for public land transport).
In three cities of Ukraine – Kiev, Kharkov and the Dnieper – the work of the subways was suspended, some city authorities decided to completely stop public transport.
Employers were encouraged to transfer employees to remote work.
The NBU said that due to quarantine in Ukraine there are certain problems with cash dollars. The first deputy head of the NBU Ekaterina Rozhkova said that dOn the introduction of quarantine measures, banks delivered cash dollars to Ukraine by plane, due to restrictions on passenger transportation around the world, the NBU and banks are working to establish another delivery system.
