The National Bank of Ukraine noted that without their participation in the interbank market, the hryvnia against the dollar is balanced at 28 UAH.
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has not entered the currency market for two days to stabilize the hryvnia. This was reported to the regulator on Facebook on March 25.
“The results of the day in the foreign exchange market. Today there is good news again. For the second day in a row, the National Bank does not intervene in the sale of foreign currency. The interbank market is balanced without our participation – at levels close to 28 UAH per US dollar,” it was reported.
On March 25, the official hryvnia rate went up: against the US dollar it increased by 34 kopecks (from UAH 28.11 / $ to UAH 27.77 / $), against the euro – by 14 kopecks (from UAH 30.25 / € up to 30.11 UAH / €).
On March 26, the value of the dollar and the euro increased, according to the NBU, to UAH 27.96 and UAH 30.27, respectively.
The hryvnia began to decline on March 10 amid a record drop in world oil prices, as well as panic in the stock markets due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since the beginning of the year, the official hryvnia to dollar rate has fallen by about 3 UAH.
March 20, the National Bank said that the hryvnia for the first time in the past few weeks has strengthened, and the demand for currency from the population fell.
The regulator believes that the main reason for the decline in the value of the Ukrainian national currency is panic.
The Ministry of Health reported that as of 10 a.m. on March 25, 113 cases of COVID-19 were registered in Ukraine, four people died, one was cured. In the evening, the Center for Public Health called 136, but noted that the information was being clarified.
