Senators of the upper house unanimously approved the candidacy of the son of the President of Tajikistan, Rustam Emomali, as head of parliament.
Rustam Emomali, the eldest son of Tajik President Rahmon Emomali, led the country’s parliament. This was announced on April 17 by the press service of the President of Tajikistan.
The candidacy of the son of the head of state for the post of chairman of the upper house of parliament was unanimously supported by the senators of her new composition.
This position is the second most important in Tajikistan. Rustam Emomali will assume the presidency in the event of the death, incapacity, or resignation of his father.
In 2006, Rustam Emomali joined the pro-presidential party at the age of 19. In April 2017, Rahmon Emomali appointed his son as mayor of the capital of Dushanbe.
On March 1, parliamentary elections were held in Tajikistan, in which, due to the ban, the largest opposition force, the Islamic Renaissance Party, did not take part. The OSCE has never recognized a country’s election as democratic.
