US President Donald Trump said he agrees with the decision of the country’s Justice Ministry to file criminal charges against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
“It sounds appropriate … That these charges were brought is right,” Trump said at a press conference in the White House.
Earlier, the U.S. Department of Justice announced accusations against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and the country’s leadership, claiming that they were involved in drug trafficking, the U.S. authorities announced a reward of $ 15 million for Maduro, and 10 million for the rest of the country’s leadership indicated in the charge.
Maduro is accused on four counts: “engaging in a conspiracy to conspire with drugs”, “conspiracy to smuggle cocaine into the United States”, “using and owning machine guns and destructive devices” as part of the conspiracy, and conspiring to use such weapons.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreasa called the allegations of drug trafficking and terrorism against the former and current leaders of the country “a new form of coup d’etat” and linked the charges with the internal situation in the United States.
